Varicose vein conditions, and spider veins, can arise as men mature. Diet, general health and heredity all play a partin the appearance of varicose veins. These veins are weakened and usually enlarged and purple. They look bumpy and distorted, discolored veins on the surface of the thighs.
A varicose veinphysician that is certified is called a phlebologist. There a number of different solutions to cure varicose vein problems. additional choices exist currently than did in the recent past. Varicose vein treatment for minor conditions may be as simple as changing diet and exercise. But more serious cases require intervention. Abnormally dilated veins need to be sealed, dissolved or removed. Other veins easily take over the job of returning blood to the heart. In all but the most difficult patientsthe methods to do this are only nonsurgical.
Sclerotherapy is the name for treatment that seals the sides of a weakened blood vessel stopping blood flow. The vessel then turns to scar tissue. This is done by injecting a compound into the varicose vein. This procedure is simple, and is often accomplished in a phlebologist`s clinic. This does not require an anaesthetic, and the men can resume normal activity when the procedure is finished. There may be black and blue marks, spotting or remnants of spidery lines which go away soon, but no long term scarring.
Recently discovered technologies for dealing with varicose veins include laser procedure. Lasers aim a powerful ray of light to the region, burning away spider veins. Individual procedures usually require less than a half hour, but more than one visits may be required in the following weeks. The heat caused by the laser creates some discomfort, but a lot of women prefer this to needles. Some redness and discoloration may appear after treatment, but will fade. When performed by a competent doctor there should be no scarring. Again, there is no interruption to regular activities.
More serious vessel difficulties may also be removed with lasers, or using both lasers and radiofrequency waves. For this, a tiny catheter is put into into the vessel. The weakened vessel is then hit with light and radio energy which causes it to seal or even break up. This kind of procedure can cause black and blue marks, but leaves no permanent marks. This is also treated on an outpatient basis, and requires about 30 minutes. Regular activities may be started the following day.
Phlebectomy is the stripping of damaged veins by pulling them out through small incisions. While this seems traumatic, as in other cases, only approximately a day of recuperation is required.
An operation is still required for enlarged varicose veins, which requires varicose vein taking outl. For this procedure being put to sleep may be required. Depending on the severity, this may also be done in an office or inpatient operation. The operation can result in pain and may require 14 weeks for recovery. Short scars from the incisions can remain, and nerve damage sometimes occurs.
